Announcement: Full manuscript submitted for publication

Περίπου μία εβδομάδα πριν την επίσημη ημερομηνία υποβολής, στάλθηκε το τελικό draft v3 του βιβλίου πλήρες με βιβλιογραφία, εικόνες και δυο γύρους διορθώσεων. Πέρα από τη δουλειά που ακολουθεί και είναι αρκετή μέχρι την εκτύπωση, αυτό το σημείο ολοκληρώνει πολλούς μήνες γραψίμματος και αποτέλεσμα περισσότερων από 120 χιλ. λέξεων. 

Το πιο σημαντικό, όμως, είναι ότι αφορά σε ένα αντικείμενο όπου υπάρχει ελάχιστη βιβλιογραφία, πολύ περισσότερο στο συγκεκριμένο τομέα (Data Science). Το βιβλίο αναμένεται να κυκλοφορήσει διεθνώς μετά το καλοκαίρι, μέχρι τότε υπάρχουν ακόμα αρκετά πράγματα να προετοιμαστούν. 

Συνήθως οι εκδότες προσκαλούν ειδικούς στο αντικείμενο να διαβάσουν την προ-έκδοση (preprint) και να στείλουν σχόλια. Όποιος/όποια ανήκει σε αυτή την κατογορία και ενδιαφέρεται, μπορεί να μου στείλει προσωπικό μήνυμα και θα ενημερώσω αν υπάρξει τέτοια δυνατότητα στους επόμενους μήνες - Ευχαριστώ εκ των προτέρων.

Just about a week before the official deadline, the complete draft v3 manuscript was finalized, cross-referenced, polished and sent to the publisher. This is a major milestone for every author, after many months of writing and more than 120 kwords in total, regardless of follow-up works, revisions and print. 

The most important thing is that it addresses a subject with very little relevant bibliography, especially in this specific domain (Data Science). The book is expected to be available after the summer and there are a lot more things to prepare until then. 

Usually the publishers offer a chance to domain experts to read the preprint and send their comments. If someone is in this category and interested, feel free to send me a personal message and I will get back if this indeed happens in the next few months - Many thanks in advance.

This is a set of four "hello world" codes in x86 assembly, using single-segment 16-bit/i8086 instruction set. This program implements floating-point 'epsilon' estimation in retro Fortran no-talking, in emulated 80286 / MS-DOS machine in DOSbox. This very short code demonstrates how easy it is to get the actual FP accuracy, i.e., the significant decimal digits in FP arithmetic operations. The result in Fortran 77 is seven FP digits for REAL type and 15 digits for DOUBLE PRECISION type, which are consistent with 2-byte and 4-byte float types, correspondingly, used in other programming languages of that era like C. Text file line shuffling in Java

This program is an elementary tutorial in Java illustrating basic syntax, subroutines and basic file I/O. Shuffling the lines of a text file is a very important step when preparing .csv training datasets for Machine Learning models. Java was originally created for rich web applications (see 'applets') and embedded programming, but it quickly became a general-purpose language with seminal cross-platform deployability due to the JVM design. In this example, legacy Java syntax is used for illustrating coding with the very first release (JDK 1.0) back in 1995. This means no support for generics, i.e., only 'Object'-based containers (Vector) and extremely limited API compared to recent versions.
